Embarking on a new Journey…

My name is Hamish McKelvie and in 2026 I’ll be entering my third year of a Bachelor of Laws/Bachelor of Arts conjoint majoring in History and Spanish. In my spare time I love to run, hike and get outdoors!

I’m so excited to be taking part in the Apacheta programme in Santiago in January. I started learning Spanish more than 5 years ago but I want to use this opportunity to take my skills in the language to the next level! I can’t wait to converse with locals and complete the required Spanish course that’s included in the programme.

I want to take part in this program to broaden my professional horizons. I have a passion for interacting with people from different cultures, having lived overseas in the UK for a year when I was younger. I believe this opportunity will further my skills in intercultural communication. Additionally, I see PMSLA as a valuable chance to network, especially as I envision international relations as a potential future career path. Moreover, I’m really looking forward to getting to know a different part of the world that I’ve never visited before, and throughout the duration of the course, I want to try my best to understand the Chilean way of life. I also can’t wait to experience the Andes mountains and go on a few side trips while I get the chance.

I look forward to sharing my experiences on this blog and keeping you updated!

Hamish
