Stirling Bright

Prime Minister’s Scholarship for Asia, Global Internship in Mumbai

Introduction

Kia Ora, I am Stirling Bright, a third-year Biomedical Science student specialising in Neuroscience at The University of Auckland. I was born and raised on Auckland’s North Shore and have family in Australia and Scotland. I am an only child and am kept busy by friends, a loving Labradoodle called Lexie, and extracurricular activities such as tennis, work and university club roles.

I applied for the internship in Mumbai because I think the cultural experience will be second to none and extremely different to anything on offer in New Zealand. I also want to be an ambassador for New Zealand, teaching people from another culture about our way of life. India is also at the forefront of medical and technological breakthroughs, which excites me, given my chosen field of study.

Throughout the six-week internship, I am most looking forward to meeting new people and learning more about their culture. I am also extremely excited to learn more about how the organisation I am interning with improves the lives of people living in Mumbai. I have a great deal to learn from this experience and am keen to bring what I learn back to implement in New Zealand to improve our practices.
